MARKET LAMB DIVISION

Arrival Time – Saturday, March 29 th, 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Weigh-in Time – Saturday, March 29 th , 11:30 a.m. - called by Breeds in order of show
Judging Time – Sunday, March 30 th, 4:00 p.m.

1. This division is subject to the General Rules and these Division rules.

2. All Market Lambs to be entered and eligible to show must be the property of the exhibitor, on feed and under the daily care of the exhibitor by October 9, 2007. Each exhibitor can tag and register two (2) animals, but may only show one. Exhibitor must present a LEGIBLE color photograph of himself and the Lamb at the time of registration. No late pictures will be accepted. Registration will be held October 9, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Lambs will be nose printed. DNA will be collected for positive identification. Exhibitors should be present. A parent or guardian MUST be present in order to sign tag-in cards and hair sample envelope.

3. All Lambs must have official tags on at time of weigh-in at the Fair. If you should lose one tag, contact the Fair Office at (936) 760-3631.

4. Determination of Lamb’s classification is to be based upon predominant breed characteristics, which indicate that the subject animal has the required blood relating to the class to which it is entered. Final classification will be conducted by a classifier or classification committee at the date of registration.

5. Only wether Lambs may be shown.

6. All Lambs, with the exception of Southdowns, must weigh a minimum of 90 pounds. Southdown Lambs must weigh a minimum of 80 pounds. There is no maximum weight limit placed on Lambs. When an exhibitor presents his Lamb to be weighed, it is understood that the weight will be recorded and become official. Each Lamb will be weighed one time only.

7. Any Lamb showing live testicular tissue of excessive Ram characteristics will be sifted.

8. Lambs must be sheared 45 days prior to check-in. All Lambs must be slick shorn from knee and hock up at the time of show. All exhibitors will be responsible for the shearing of their own Lamb.

9. Haltered or collared Lambs will not be allowed into the show ring.

10. The Champion and Reserve Champion Lamb of each breed classification will be eligible to compete and shall return to the judging arena for selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion of the Show.

11. Following completion of placing, the judge will place sale order of the Lambs.

12. No bedding hay.

13. Unethical fitting is prohibited including, but not limited to the following:

a) No change of the natural color pattern of the animal by painting or dyeing is allowed.
b) Any grooming material that allows color to come off from any animal will not be allowed at the show.
c) The addition of any dry soap, dust, hair or hair like substances.
d) The cutting, tearing or gluing of the hide or underneath the hide or removal of tissue in an attempt to alter the shape of the animal.
e) The injection of any natural or synthetic air or gas, solid or liquid under the hide to alter the normal conformation.

14. Lambs will be secured at night by exhibitor.

15. Classes will be established for each breed and set by weight. The number of classes and animals per class will be at the discretion of the Lamb Committee Chairman.

16. The following is a list of Lamb breeds and the order in which they will be judged:

Breed 1 – Southdown
Breed 2 – Fine Wool
Breed 3 – Fine Wool Cross
Breed 4 – Medium Wool

17. The use of drugs not approved for Lambs used for human consumption will not be allowed.

18. LAMBS WILL BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE LAMB SHOW. ALL LAMBS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY 8:00 A.M. THE FOLLOWING MORNING. ALL SALE ANIMALS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE AUCTION. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PREMIUM MONIES BEING FORFEITED. RELEASE FORMS WILL BE COMPLETED AND GIVEN TO THE EXHIBITOR, PARENT, AG TEACHER OR 4-H LEADER AT THE TIME OF WEIGH-IN OR WHEN THE EXHIBITOR IS GIVEN THEIR EXHIBITOR NUMBER.

ENTRIES ARE DUE IN THE FAIR OFFICE – FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2008 BY 5:00 P.M. WITH A $20.00 ENTRY FEE.

JR. AND SR. SHOWMANSHIP IS OPEN TO ALL EXHIBITORS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE. YOU PAY $5.00 (CASH) AT THE ENTRY GATE AND THE WINNER IS AWARDED ALL PROCEEDS AT THE EXIT GATE.
