MARKET GOAT DIVISION

Arrival Time – Monday, April 12th, 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Weigh-in Time – Monday, April 12th, 9:30 a.m.
Judging Time – Tuesday, April 13th , 10:00 a.m.

1. This division is subject to the General Rules and these Division rules.

2. All Market Goats to be entered and eligible to show must be the property of the exhibitor, on feed and under the daily care of the exhibitor by October 27, 2009. Market Goats will be toothed at this time and must have milk teeth in place and be showing no permanent teeth. Each exhibitor can tag and register two (2) animals, but may only show one. Exhibitor must present a LEGIBLE color photograph of himself and the Goat at the time of registration. No late pictures will be accepted. Registration will be held October 27, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Goats will be tattooed and DNA will be collected for positive identification. Exhibitor should be present. A parent or guardian MUST be present in order to sign tag-in card and hair sample envelope. If an exhibitor requires a General Exception Form (refer to Page ), it will be due on the date/time of tag in of animal exhibitor is showing. Each application will be reviewed for compliance.

3. All Goats must have official tags on at time of weigh-in at the Fair. If you should lose one tag, contact the Fair Office at (936) 760-3631. A fee of $300.00 will be assessed should a goat loose both ear tags and it is determined that DNA testing is required for proper identification.

4. This show is open to any breed of wether goat. Goats must be wethers before weigh-in and show no signs of testicular development.

5. Goats must weigh a minimum of 60 pounds and not over 130 lbs. at the official weigh-in. There will be a 5-lb. weight tolerance. Goats will be weighed one time only and that weight will be the official weight. Goats will be weighed with the collars off.

6. Goats must be summer shorn above the knee and hock to a length less than 3/8” before the animal is allowed to cross the weigh scale. Removal of horns on grounds is not permitted. Goats must be dehorned or horns tipped. End of tipped horns must be greater than the diameter of a dime at the time of weigh-in.

7. Each exhibitor must be able to show his or her goat unassisted. Collars are suggested during judging or the showmanship contest.

8. The First and Second Place Goats of each class will be eligible to compete and shall return to the judging arena for selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion of the Show.

9. Following completion of placing, the judge will place sale order of the Goats.

10. No bedding hay.

11. Unethical fitting is prohibited including, but not limited to the following:

a) No change of the natural color pattern of the animal by painting or dyeing is allowed. b) Any grooming material that allows color to come off from any animal will not be allowed at the show.
c) The addition of any dry soap, dust, hair or hair like substances.
d) The cutting, tearing or gluing of the hide or underneath the hide or removal of tissue in any attempt to alter the shape of the animal.
e) The injection of any natural or synthetic air or gas, solid or liquid under the hide to alter the normal conformation.

12. Goats will be secured at night by exhibitor.

13. Classes will be established by weight. The number of classes and animals per class will be at the discretion of the Goat Committee.

14. The use of drugs not approved for Goats used for human consumption will not be allowed.

15. GOATS WILL BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE GOAT SHOW. ALL GOATS MUST BE CHECKED OUT NO LATER THAN TWO HOURS AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE SHOW. ALL SALE ANIMALS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE AUCTION. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PREMIUM MONIES BEING FORFEITED. RELEASE FORMS WILL BE COMPLETED AND GIVEN TO THE EXHIBITOR, PARENT, AG TEACHER OR 4-H LEADER AT THE TIME OF WEIGH-IN OR WHEN THE EXHIBITOR IS GIVEN THEIR EXHIBITOR NUMBER.

ENTRIES ARE DUE IN THE FAIR OFFICE – FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2010 BY 5:00 P.M. WITH A $20.00 ENTRY FEE.

JR. AND SR. SHOWMANSHIP IS OPEN TO ALL EXHIBITORS THAT WISH TO PARTICIPATE. YOU PAY $5.00 (CASH) AT THE ENTRY GATE AND THE WINNER WILL BE AWARDED ALL PROCEEDS AT THE EXIT GATE.
