JUNIOR HORTICULTURE SHOW

1. The general rules for all Junior Non-Livestock Shows apply to the Horticulture Show as well as the following special rules.

2. Individuals can exhibit only four entries. You cannot enter any section more than once. A separate entry card for each item must be filled out.

3. Container plants must have been in the exhibitor’s possession at least 90 days and plant must be in the same container it has been in for those 90 days. Insect-infested plants will not be allowed in the show area.

4. Containers for cut specimens will be a plain, glass container already filled with water and furnished by the exhibitor. Large specimens should be in a suitable, stable container also furnished by the exhibitor.

5. Maximum size 30” x 30” x 36” high and not to exceed 30-35 lbs. ITEMS WILL BE WEIGHED AND MEASURED AT CHECK IN.

6. An entry fee of $10.00 PER ITEM ENTERED will be charged.

7. A MCFA LOG SHEET MUST BE KEPT ON ALL HORTICULTURE ENTRIES. THESE LOG SHEETS MAY BE OBTAINED AT THE FAIR OFFICE, AND MUST BE TURNED IN WITH YOUR ENTRY ON SATURDAY, APRIL 14TH. You must give a complete description and size of your item when entry card is turned in on February 24th.

8. Substitutions will be allowed in Division I only.

AWARDS

The preliminary judges may pick up to ten top winners. These exhibitors will receive Finalist Rosettes and must be present at the final judging. Individuals cannot make the top 10 more than once. The Final Judging will pick the Grand, Reserve, 3rd and 4th place winner. Grand, Reserve, 3rd and 4th place winners will receive trophies and will sell their item at the Auction. IF AN ITEM DOES NOT FIT THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DISPLAY CASE, BECAUSE OF SECURITY RISKS, THE ITEM WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED. An additional ten Honorable Mentions may be selected. These exhibitors will receive an Honorable Mention Rosette and will have their items displayed in the Exhibit Building.

CATEGORIES

DIVISION I. VEGETABLES AND FRUITS

SECTION A. LEAFY VEGETABLES AND CABBAGE AND THEIR RELATIVES
(Chard Collards, Lettuce, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, etc.) Two heads or bunches on an oval (platter type) paper plate – outer leaves should be removed, stems cut clean, leaf bunches tied together and should have roots removed.

SECTION B. ROOT CROPS
(Beets, Carrots, Green Onions, Shallots, Radishes and Turnips) Two standard bunches of 4 to 6 roots per bunch on an oval (platter type) paper plate.

SECTION C. FRUITS AND FRUITING VEGETABLES
(Peas, Strawberries, Blackberries and Dewberries) Small fruits and vegetables consisting of 8 to 10 items of uniform color and shape on an oval (platter type) paper plate; large fruits and vegetables consisting of 4 to 6 items of uniform color and shape on an oval (platter type) paper plate.

DIVISION II. HORTICULTURE

SECTION A. CONTAINER PLANTS
(African violets, Foliage plants, Ferns, Cactus and other succulents, etc.)
SECTION B. TERRARIUMS
SECTION C. HANGING BASKETS
SECTION D. CUT FLOWERS
(Annuals, Perennials, Collection of flowers – 3 stems)
SECTION E. TREE AND SHRUB BRANCHES 14” – 36” LONG (SINGLE BRANCH) (Flower of fruiting, Broadleaf evergreen, Needled evergreen, Decorative foliage)

DIVISION III. ARTISTIC – NO SILK OR PLASTIC

Accessories are permitted, but entire exhibit must not exceed maximum size requirements.
