2011 MONTGOMERY COUNTY FAIR

QUEEN CONTEST RULES

1. Candidate must be a High School Junior or equivalent.

2. Candidate must be a resident of and attend school in Montgomery County at the time of application throughout entire reign, should she be elected.

3. Candidate must be enrolled and attending high school or equivalent program the school calendar year.

4. Candidate must have never been married or pregnant.

5. Candidate must have parents’ written consent to enter contest.

6. Candidate must reside with parents or guardian at time of application for Fair Queen and during entire reign as Fair Queen. Fair Queen must be enrolled and attending high school or equivalent program through the school calendar year.

7. Candidate must be willing to represent the Montgomery County Fair Association at official activities should she be crowned Fair Queen. For example: 4-H Club meetings, support group functions and/or community activities. The Fair Queen must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or Fair representative to any such activity.

8. Applications may be picked up through your 4-H Club, Ag Departments, 4-H Office or Fair Office.

9. Each applicant’s official entry form must be turned into the Fair Office (not mailed) at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds no later than Monday, October 18, 2010 by 5:00 p.m. All entry forms must be accompanied by a recent photo of the applicant ( PHOTO MUST BE A 5 X 7 SIZE), and a 200 word essay explaining what being selected Fair Queen would mean to you. APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETE. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. All rules will apply as of entry form due date.

10. Candidates will be furnished with a schedule of events and dates. If these events cannot be attended, the Committee Chairman MUST BE NOTIFIED. All deadlines will be strictly followed and if a deadline is missed, candidate will not be allowed to participate from that point forth. Attendance and/or compliance with scheduled events are mandatory unless it conflicts with educational schedule and needs. Each individual situation will be reviewed and decisions made at the discretion of the Fair Queen Committee Chairman.

11. There will be a meeting of all candidates, parents, and/or guardian on Thursday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the Fair Office.

12. An etiquette and makeup program will be held on Thursday, November 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fair Office.

13. A float planning and pizza party will be held on Tuesday, November 30th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fair Office.

14. Candidate MUST have an entry in the 2011 Montgomery County Fair, either in the Livestock and/or Non-Livestock Division and MUST COMPLY WITH LIVESTOCK AND/OR NON-LIVESTOCK GENERAL RULES, REGULATIONS AND ENTRY CARD DUE DATES.

15. Candidates will be required to distribute posters to area businesses and sell Rodeo tickets to the Saturday night Rodeo performance. All ticket money is due in the Fair Office on Tuesday, March 1st by 5:00 p.m.

16. Each candidate will be responsible for obtaining her own sponsor. A sponsorship is $350. Sponsorship forms are due in the Fair Office by Monday, January 3, 2011. Sponsorship fees support the Fair Queen scholarship program. Thank you notes must be written to the sponsors and will be required to be turned in with sponsorship form on January 3rd.

17. Candidates will be required to meet with newspaper and possibly radio personnel for interviews and pictures at a Press Party on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lone Star Convention Center. On this date, each candidate is required to turn in ten questions. These in turn will be used for the final judging. Each candidate will be asked one of the questions that she submitted. This question will be randomly selected

18. Candidates will be required to ride in the Go Texan Parade the afternoon of Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Candidates will be responsible for helping to decorate a float that they will ride on for the Parade. The date to decorate the float will be on Thursday, February 17th at 6:00 p.m.

19. Candidates MUST wear a western outfit, including hat and boots for final judging. Blue jeans and western hat WILL BE REQUIRED for Parade, unless outfit needs to correspond with parade theme. This will be determined by the Fair Queen Committee. Western attire, INCLUDING BOOTS, will be required for Press Party. Western attire must be worn to all functions. Appropriate and tasteful dress is expected at all functions. All dresses and skirts must be knee length or longer and front of dresses or shirts must not be too low or too revealing. If the committee feels dress is inappropriate, candidate will not be allowed to compete from this point forward.

20. Final judging will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011. Judges will be selected from outside Montgomery County. Entrants will bejudged on their poise and personality (10%), personal interview (40%), and public speaking (50%). Judges will interview candidates individually and watch as they introduce themselves and answer a randomly selected question during this public speaking portion of the competition. A 2-3 minute speech on “What the Montgomery County Fair means to You” will also be required by each candidate.

21. The reigning Fair Queen, as well as the runners up and Miss Congeniality must participate and have a project the year following the contest, or their scholarship will be forfeited.

22. The Montgomery County Fair Association and Fair Queen Committee assumes no responsibility for accidents or injuries, including while the Queen may be carrying out her official duties.

23. Scholarship will be made payable to school of winners choice and must be used within one year from date of graduation of High School. Candidate must enroll at least half time at an accredited College, University or Vocational School.

24. If the Fair Queen is unable to complete her duties, the 1st runner-up would be asked to accept the position of Fair Queen and assume any duties from that date forward.

25. Should the reigning Fair Queen be contacted by any other organization to participate in an event, the Fair Office or Fair Queen Chairman must first approve the participation.

26. In the case of a tie for Miss Congeniality, the judges will break the tie.

27. THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FAIR ASSOCIATION RESERVES TO ITS OFFICERS AND/OR BOARD OF DIRECTORS THE FINAL AND ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO INTERPRET THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS AND ARBITRARILY SETTLE AND DETERMINE ALL MATTERS, QUESTIONS AND DIFFERENCES IN REGARD THERETO OR OTHERWISE ARISING OUT OF, CONNECTION WITH, OR INCIDENT TO THE FAIR QUEEN CONTEST.

THE FAIR QUEEN WILL RECEIVE A $3,000 SCHOLARSHIP, A TROPHY, BUCKLE, BANNER, JACKET & ROSES.

1ST RUNNER UP WILL RECEIVE A $2,000 SCHOLARSHP, A TROPHY, BANNER AND FLOWERS.

2ND RUNNER UP WILL RECEIVE A $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP, A TROPHY, BANNER AND FLOWERS.

MISS CONGENIALITY WILL RECEIVE A $500 SCHOLARSHIP, A TROPHY, BANNER AND FLOWERS.
